A Lovers’ Line through the Presidio of San Francisco

My friend and fellow SPUR activist, artist Jeannene Przyblyski (don’t try and spell her name at home!) created this interactive piece for Lovers Lane, a path through The Presidio of San Francisco. Visit the web site at:

On this Valentine’s Day the podcast was augmented with appearances by enigmatic characters from the past and future. The [...]

A Fresh Perspective

Shawnim and Deellan Kashani, the 14-year-old twin daughters of Ali Kashani (co-founder of Citycentric, one of our developer collaborators) spent a day visiting DB+P and shadowing designers Amanda Loper and Sara Mae Martens. The two made trees for architectural models, learned about green roofs and green building technology, and organized samples and submittals with Sara [...]

Halloween Tiger!

We celebrated Halloween along Telegraph in Temescal. All the shops were open for trick-or-treating and there were jugglers, bands, and costumed kiddies galore. Here’s a pic of my 2 1/2 year old snaggle-toothed tiger, Niam.

Saving Trees by Moving a Floor

Sara Mae Martens and I spent part of the day yesterday moving hardwood flooring from our Tassafaronga job site to a storage unit in San Francisco. One of the green strategies involved in renovating the disused pasta factory on that site was to reuse old building materials that are being removed. We wanted to get [...]

Inhabitat.com

Inhabitat.com is a fabulous weblog I ran across while looking at a post about David Baker’s house.
Their mission is:
GOOD DESIGN IS GREEN DESIGN
GREEN DESIGN IS GOOD DESIGN
Check out this recent post:
They also have a weblog devoted to sustainable design for the next generation called Inhabitots –a cute name with an even cuter logo.

The Benefits of Reusing a Building

Perhaps you have watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC? It’s a reality show where a family wins a contest to have their home “made over”, and it usually features a struggling family with a special-needs child living in a less-than-ideal home.
While I certainly don’t have a problem with helping out families facing tough times, [...]

Kids + Halloween Dreams at DB+P

DB+P kids are getting ready for Halloween early this year.  Could it be that their creative parents just can’t wait for baby’s first Halloween? Never ones to be left behind, it seems DB+P employees are keeping up with the baby boomlet national trend, with several new additions to the family.  Babies Colin, Savanna, Lawrence and [...]

Two for One

Aerial photographer Steve Proehl’s helicopter shot caught two of our buildings–888 Seventh Street (left) and Crescent Cove–against the San Francisco skyline.

Pearl District Parks

In Portland, Oregon, they have done a wonderful job with new parks in the Pearl District. Tanner Park has a wetland concept that absorbs the water from the surrounding streets and buildings and turns it into sustainable art. Also note the art piece made from railroad rails that were formerly in use in this area.
