The NY Times reported the winner of the CityRacks Design Competition in New York today, a contest to find the next generation design for all the city’s sidewalk bike racks. The winning design, called “Hoop” is by Ian Mahaffy and Maarten De Greeve from Copenhagen.

This Saturday, October 18th, was the fourth annual “Peak to Peak” walk hosted by the local pedestrian advocacy group Walk San Francisco (www.WalkSF.org). It’s not Amsterdam but it’s a start. After two years with zero bicycle improvements due to a legal challenge we finally installed our first “bicycle traffic signal”. As an often marginalized citizen of the streets the sight of that green light with a bicycle symbol on it is heart warming.
